Presentor:  Hugo Bonjean, Keeper of Bees, Wine Alchemist, World Traveler, Social and Environmental activist.

Bio: Hugo is the bestselling author of In the Eyes of Anahita, Seeds of Germination or Termination and A People’s Power. He is a critical thinker with an M.B.A. and has held executive positions with global corporations.  Hugo and his wife Ilse have recently open the Spirit Hills winery in Millarville, Alberta which produces local wines from all organic Alberta ingredients.  They produce all their food for an entire year on their farm.  They grow all their vegetables from heirloom seeds, have goats for milk and cheese, chickens for eggs and Hugo bow-hunts deer, elk and moose for meat.  The Spirit Hills wines are hailed for the food friendliness and royal quality and are being served in top hotels and restaurants in Alberta like the Banff Springs Hotel and Teatro in Calgary.  Hugo will share his journey from being a corporate executive to sustainable farmer and the challenges they had to overcome along the way.  He will explain why the re-creation of local food systems is essential for social and environmental justice on this planet and for healing Mother Earth.

We will have the privilege of tasting  the wonderful wines of Spirit Hills Winery (there will be a small cost, so remember to bring some extra cash if you wish to taste test the wine) as well as hearing what Hugo has to tell us about the challenges of living the life of an organic farmer in Alberta.  He will share with us many adventures of his life and how he came to write two books about South America.  Don’t miss this presentation – it will be very entertaining and informative!  Bring a friend, invite a guest!

Please note: Because of the difficulty in having  someone/anyone commit to the shopping, preparing and serving coffee and the clean-up afterward, it has been suggested by several people at the last meeting, that we just discontinue this service.  So this is to inform you that you should no longer expect coffee and snacks at the meetings.  This is also because the management of  the Bow Cliff Seniors Centre has “lost” all of our supplies and equipment.

A representative from The Rothney Astrophysical Observatory will come and speak to us about the following:  “Getting ready for Comet ISON”

The official announcement of a new comet discovery of comet C/2012 S1 (ISON) showed this comet, that is currently beyond the orbit of Jupiter, would spend the next 13 months moving towards a near miss of the Sun in November of 2013. The current orbital calculations indicate it will come to within 2 million kilometers of the Sun (about 8 times the distance from earth to our moon) and then if it survives this passage will pass around to about half the distance between earth and the sun.  This presentation will be closely followed by:

October 11,  Rothney Observatory, Priddis  Road Trip

Night viewing at the Observatory.  With luck it will be clear night and we will once again have the use of the large telescopes at the Observatory to view the Comet and other fascinating objects in our Cosmos.

  1. / An outstanding share! I’ve just forwarded this onto a colleague who has been doing a little homework on this. And he actually ordered me lunch simply because I discovered it for him… lol. So let me reword this…. Thanks for the meal!! But yeah, thanx for spending time to discuss this subject here on your web site.
